in defense of the pussy bow

who's keeping us inspired lately? well, designer Tate Reynolds, for one. we recently spotted him effortlessly flaunting the ~ever so subversive~ pussy bow. meanwhile, his partner sported a glitzy brooch.

named after its resemblance to those ribbons once lovingly tied around the necks of house cats, the pussy bow is the female equivalent of a neck tie. this challenge to last century's traditional dress code unsurprisingly grew in popularity during feminism's second wave, as women were foraying male spaces.

and, speaking of statement accessories with historic roots, we can't not talk about the resurgence of the brooch. but like, not in the way your grandmother wore brooches: this past awards season has shown that, if anything, menswear is making brooches happen.

the "new" brooch (alongside the "new" pussy bow) is totally neutral, but undoubtedly playful. today, it's for anyone who wants to tell a story through purposeful, charming little details. and really, in the land of chunk, there's nothing we're more passionate about than polished little touches that give a lasting sort of impact.
